Today is the start of the international transfer window! Well, not really. I just wanted to slip a soccer term in. But teams can sign international players today, so you'll hear about teams reaching deals with 16 year old players from around the globe. Just not the Twins.

As I reported a few weeks ago, the Twins tried to get in on some of the better prospects but were unable to secure deals. Sometimes these things come down to how long a team has known a player and has been able to establish a relationship with him than how much they are offering him. The Twins have money to spend, but could not land one of the big fish. The pool of talent is not considered strong this year either.

The Twins will more likely use their $2.4 million bonus pool to sign several decent prospects rather than sink most of it on one. Last year, they spent $4 million on shortstop Wander Javier. This year, they are expected to spend six figures on a few talents.

Twins manager wanted to get Eduardo Escobar in the lineup today, and has him at short with Eduardo Nunez as the DH. That puts Trevor Plouffe, who homered on Friday, on the bench. Plouffe was disappointed that he's not in the lineup, but Molitor noted that his third baseman has been banged up lately and could use a day off.

``I know Trevor wanted to play today," Molitor said.

Tyler Duffey is on the mound today, his first start since holding the Yankees to one run over eight innings last week in New York.
