Drive a Lexus ES300? If so, you are more prone to get a ticket than drivers of other car models.
The stylish sedan topped the list of most ticketed vehicles according to a new survey out Thursday from Insurance.com. More than 33 percent of Lexus ES300 drivers reported getting tickets during the survey period from Jan. 1, 2014, and Feb. 1, 2016
The car insurance comparison-shopping website looked at claim and traffic violation data from 331 models and more than 323,000 recent customers to come up with its list of cars with the most tickets.
"It's the driver that gets tickets, not the car," says Penny Gusner, consumer analyst for Insurance.com. "But it is interesting to see what vehicle makes and models attract drivers who are prone to traffic violations."
Two years ago the website conducted a similar survey and the Subaru WRX ranked as the highest "ticket magnet." This year that model checked in at No. 12.
Drivers of more expensive vehicles, such as the Buick Encore, Lexus IS350, Acura ILX and Cadillac ATS received the lowest percentage of tickets while drivers of economy and luxury models received the most citations.
The survey also found that cars on most ticketed list also appear to have an above-average number of insurance claims.
Insurance companies often pay more attention to claims than they do to traffic tickets when setting rates, the website said.
