A head-on collision south of Lakeville left one driver dead and the other hospitalized.

A head-on collision south of Lakeville left one driver dead and the other hospitalized, authorities said.

The crash occurred shortly before 6:30 a.m. Tuesday on County Road 86 in Eureka Township, according to the Dakota County Sheriff's Office.

Killed was Atahan Atay, 31, the sheriff's office said. The other driver, Alan D. Benson, 51, of New Market, was taken by air ambulance to Regions Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Atay, of Princeton Junction, N.J., was driving his car west on County Road 86, when he collided with Benson's eastbound pickup truck just west of Iberia Avenue, according to the sheriff's office.

Authorities have yet to say which vehicle left its lane.
