A man was killed when his car crossed into the wrong lane on an east-central Minnesota highway and struck a pickup truck head-on, authorities said Monday.

The collision occurred about 4:25 p.m. Sunday on Hwy. 23 in Brook Park, according to the State Patrol.

Stuart R. Maurer, 51, of nearby Mora, was killed, the patrol said.

The driver of the pickup, James L. Alleman, 49, was slightly hurt but did not require hospitalization, the patrol added.

The car was heading east on Hwy. 23 and "veered onto the shoulder and then entered the oncoming west lane" before colliding head-on with the pickup, according to a patrol statement.

Although the patrol has yet to determine why the car was on the wrong side of the highway, it did note that the road was snowy and icy at the time.
