A pickup driver allegedly ran over a woman walking along a highway before dawn in southeastern North Dakota and fled, only to be caught after hiding his vehicle, authorities said.

The crash occurred between 5:30 and 6 a.m. Friday along northbound Hwy. 32, just north of Lisbon and 70 miles southwest of Fargo, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The victim was identified as Ilina Valkova, 44, of Lisbon. Her body was found about three hours after she was struck from behind, the patrol said.

The driver, identified by the patrol as Paul D. Vincent, 30, of Gwinner, N.D., was arrested the same day about 90 miles north of the crash scene in Cooperstown. He remains jailed on suspicion of leaving the scene of a fatal crash, a felony.

The vehicle was found in Gwinner, the patrol said.
