A car ran off a wet interstate ramp in the east metro late Wednesday night and flipped, leaving the driver dead and his passenger injured, authorities said Thursday.

The crash occurred about 11:45 p.m. as the car was leaving eastbound Interstate 694 and heading for southbound I-35E in Little Canada, according to the State Patrol.

Javier G. Archuleta, 47, of Minneapolis, was killed, the patrol said. He was wearing his seat belt.

Derrick Brown, 23, of Columbia Heights, was in the car and survived, the patrol added. Brown was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. He also was wearing his seat belt.

The car hit a guardrail and a light post before rolling over and ending up on its roof, according to the patrol.
