Driver dies after his car collides with semi at NW. Minnesota intersection

The driver of a Mercedes died when he crashed into a semitrailer truck in a northwestern Minnesota intersection early Tuesday, the State Patrol said.

Gregory Driscol, 59, was headed north on Hwy. 75 when he failed to yield to the semi, which was traveling east on Hwy. 2 in Crookston. The vehicles met in the intersection just before 5 a.m., Sgt. Jesse Grabow of the patrol said.

Driscol, of East Grand Forks, Minn., was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.

The truck driver, Kristopher L. Rittel, 53, was treated for noncritical injuries at RiverView Health in Crookston, the patrol said.

Rittel, of Grand Forks, N.D., was wearing a seat belt.

Roads were wet at the time of the crash.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office and Crookston Police and Fire responded to the crash, which is under investigation.
