A driver who fled police Friday evening during an attempted traffic stop, crashed his car, stole another one and crashed it into a squad car before being arrested in Dakota County will face several charges, Eagan police said Saturday.

Just before 5:30 p.m. Friday, an Eagan officer tried to stop a vehicle whose registered owner had a felony warrant from the state Department of Corrections. The driver fled from officers, who gave chase in a high-speed pursuit that had other drivers scrambling to get out of the way, and crashed his vehicle in Inver Grove Heights. The driver ran from the car into a nearby neighborhood; two other occupants of the car were taken into custody.

The driver then stole another vehicle and was arrested after he crashed it into a squad car.

He was taken to a hospital for evaluation and then to the Dakota County jail. One officer was treated for minor injuries suffered during the foot chase.

The suspect, a 46-year-old St. Paul Park man, is likely to face charges of fleeing in a motor vehicle, motor vehicle theft and damage to property, police said.

Law enforcement agencies participating in the chase included police from Inver Grove Heights, South St. Paul, West St. Paul and Mendota Heights, as well as the Minnesota State Patrol.
