Anne Mavity has stepped down after just a few months as an aide to Hennepin County Commissioner Gail Dorfman. Mavity, a member of the St. Louis Park City Council, didn't explain her departure but said she was "grateful" for the caring leadership at the county on the issue of homelessness.
She is succeeded by Amy Stetzel, who holds degrees from St. Olaf College and Columbia University, where she earned a master's in social work and public policy. Stetzel said she was drawn to the fields after seeing Third World poverty while on a study-abroad program in India, China, Egypt and South Korea.
She worked with homeless families and in child welfare for the city of New York. She spent a year with AmeriCorps resettling refugee families in Minnesota.
The Cedar Falls, Iowa, native said working for Dorfman is a "perfect fit." She called her new boss a "champion on homelessness" now launching a fight against sexual exploitation of youth.
