While hiking, learn how to shoot a wintry landscape from an REI professional. Cost is $50. All skill levels. Call 763-559-6700 to make a reservation and reference number 112243-00. This program is for ages 13 and older.

Family ski lesson

Noon-1:30 p.m. Saturday

A fun lesson intended for adults and children. Learn the basics. Cost is $15 per person, or $22 with ski rental for ages 6-12 and $26 with ski rental for ages 13 and older. Call 763-694-7687 and reference number 122956-02.

Gear, icehouse and easily accessible fishing holes provided. Adapted for individuals with physical or cognitive disabilities. Cost is $8. This program is open to all ages. Call 763-694-7818 and reference number 125941-00.

9-11 a.m. Saturday

Take a hike around the bison range to see how they thrive in winter. Along the way, an area naturalist will share some of the history of bison and their managed restoration in Minnesota. 5-8 p.m. Saturday

Trails will be lit by candles, providing a magical backdrop for an evening hike. (651-231-6968, mndnr.gov)

Listen for the barred owl and other winter night sounds along two miles of flat, lighted trails suitable for all ages and ability levels. Young families are encouraged to come at twilight. Bring a sled to pull youngsters on designated walking trails. Stop to roast marshmallows at an outdoor campfire, or warm up at the visitor center. (507-333-4840, mndnr.gov)
