Bison snowshoe hike

Minneopa State Park

9-11 a.m. Saturday

Take a hike around the bison range to see how they thrive in winter. Along the way, an area naturalist will share some of the history of bison and their managed restoration in Minnesota. Parks by candlelight

Afton State Park

Trails will be lit by candles, providing a magical backdrop for an evening hike. (651-231-6968, mndnr.gov)

Nerstrand Big Woods State Park

5:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday

Listen for the barred owl and other winter night sounds along two miles of flat, lighted trails suitable for all ages and ability levels. Young families are encouraged to come at twilight. Bring a sled to pull youngsters on designated walking trails. Stop to roast marshmallows at an outdoor campfire, or warm up at the visitor center. (507-333-4840, mndnr.gov)
