Nature hike

Maple syruping
Lake Maria State Park, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
Come and learn about the process of making real maple syrup. This includes tapping the maple trees, cooking the sap and the finishing process. Taste the final product. The demonstration is ongoing, so arrive anytime between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Meet at the visitor center and follow the signs. Note that you may encounter snowy, muddy or wet conditions on the short hike to the tapping area. (763-878-2325, mndnr.gov)
Trail race
Lake Rebecca Park Reserve, 8 a.m. April 16
Preregistration online at a discount ends at midnight Friday for the Trail Mix running races through prairie, woods and near wetlands at the park in Rockford. There are three races that are part of Trail Mix: a 25 kilometer, a 50K and a 50K team run (four racers). Money from the Trail Mix will help Three Rivers Park District buy equipment for its adaptive sports programs. Go online to bit.ly/trailmx to sign up.
