Craftsman cards
Around 1900, when the Arts & Crafts movement was in its heyday, a new art form was on the rise: the greeting card. Arts & Crafts designers embraced this new format, creating hand-printed cards that were displayed at craft exhibitions and sold through craft society shops. The Twin Cities Bungalow Club will explore this era with an illustrated talk by Anne Stewart O'Donnell, author of a forthcoming book on the topic.
O'Donnell will examine the Arts & Crafts cards and the careers of those who created them, with special emphasis on the leaders of the movement in the Twin Cities and Minnesotans who helped launch today's greeting card industry.

DIY centerpieces
If you're hosting Thanksgiving this year, here's help for creating a seasonal centerpiece. Bachman's is offering two Thanksgiving-themed workshops this week, part of a series taught by award-winning floral designer Diane Enge.
From 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, you can learn how to make a modular Thanksgiving centerpiece that you can group together for maximum impact or separate to decorate multiple tables. The trio of arrangements, made with mums, sunflowers, fall leaves and berries, includes one large rectangular arrangement and two coordinating small circular arrangements that are perfect for pairing with a votive candle.
From 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, back by popular demand is a how-to workshop on creating "the turkey centerpiece" — a floral arrangement in the shape of a turkey, using mums for the body and a bird of paradise for the head.

Holiday farmers market
It's getting cold outside, but the farmers market season isn't over. The Kingfield and Fulton farmers markets are joining forces for their first 2013 winter market, hosted by Bachman's.
Inside a warm greenhouse, visitors can browse items from vendors offering local meats, prepared and preserved foods, coffee, cheese, baked goods, veggies and artisan jewelry, plus local beer, organic wine, live music and other activities. Market hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 10 at Bachman's on Lyndale, 6010 Lyndale Av. S., Mpls.
