Divers recovered the body of a teenager who drowned in Eagle Lake in western Carver County late Friday night, the sheriff's office said.

The victim was identified as a 16-year-old boy from the area, said Sheriff's Chief Deputy Jason Kamerud.

A 911 caller reported seeing a swimmer go under about 7:30 p.m. at Baylor Regional Park, which is just off County Road 33 in Camden Township, Kamerud said.

Authorities were investigating why the teen was in the water, and whether or not it was a recreational swim, the chief deputy said.

The Carver County Sheriff's Dive Team searched the lake, along with boats from three or four fire departments from that area near Norwood Young America, he said.

It was the opening weekend for the campground at the lake, where people were geared up for the fishing opener. All campers and guests are accounted for who were known to be in the park, Kamerud said.

Divers were assisted in the search by large lights powered by at least one generator. They searched methodically in a grid pattern and recovered the teen's body before midnight.
