A Twin Cities man riding with a group of motorcyclists in north-central Minnesota was struck by a deer and killed, authorities said Monday.

The collision occurred about 5:40 p.m. Saturday on County Road 91, just outside of Bena, according to the Cass County Sheriff's Office.

Glen Sass, 54, of Prior Lake, was treated at the scene by emergency responders and flown by air ambulance to a hospital in Fargo, where he died, the Sheriff's Office added. He did not have on a helmet.

Sass and the other motorcyclists were heading north on County Road 91 "when a deer ran onto the roadway, striking a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle [and] throwing its driver off the machine," a statement from the Sheriff's Office read. The deer died.
