David Letterman Apology Part. 2 seemed sincere, amusing and fairly appropriate. But it was the Apology Part 3 that stuck out to me. If you went to bed before Steve Martin's banjo performance (and I don't blame you if you did) you probably missed it. In a nutshell: The show ended several minutes earlier than usual, allowing time for a weird, almost psychedelic video version of the entire theme song with solo shots of every band member. During the performance, the credits ran slowly, allowing viewers the opportunity to read the names of each and every person involved with the show (and, yes, Stephanie Birkitt is still listed as one of Letterman's assistants).

Was it done just to fill time - or was it Letterman's way of paying tribute to his staff? I'd like to think the latter.

Of course, this in no way condones Letterman's past behavior. That being said, I'm still reserving judgment until I hear more. This is tricky territory - and it pains me to see people rush to judgment on both sides.

BTW, if I'm ever in PR trouble, I hope Marty Short is around to help me out.
