Datalink said on Monday that it purchased Eden Prairie-based IT firm Midwave Corp. for $17.6 million.

Datalink, a Chanhanssen company that provides data center infrastructure and services, said the deal will increase sales, expand its product offering and double the size of its consulting services team.

"Our expanded footprint in the Twin Cities makes us the dominant data center services and infrastructure provider in the region," Paul Lidsky, Datalink's president and CEO said in a statement.

Datalink said the combined company will have annual sales of more than $400 million and more than 400 employees. The integration of the two firms will occur within 90 days.

As a result of the deal, Jim Leslie, Midwave's chairman and CEO, will become executive vice president of strategy and business development at Datalink. Datalink said it will have a charge of $250,000 in the fourth quarter for the acquisition.

Datalink's stock was trading at $7.21 a share, up 41 cents on Monday morning.
