The Palabras Project

Singer/rapper Maria Isa and flamenco dancer extraordinaire Susana di Palma are joined by a slew of talented artists working in Latino cultural traditions for "The Palabras Project," put together by Other Tiger Productions. Recently formed by Ricardo Vazquez and Jessica Huang, the company aims to create work outside of the box, with this production using Federico Garcia Lorca's "Blood Wedding" as a starting point. With hip-hop-influenced Boricu music by Isa, dance by Di Palma, indigenous art by Armando Gutierrez G., masks and puppets by Gustavo Boada and a piece based on "Blood Wedding" using shadow puppetry, movement and text by Dario Tangelson, the show promises an immersive experience of culture from Spanish-speaking places all around the globe. (7:30 Fri.-Sat., 2 p.m. Sun. Ends July 17. $20. Park Square Theatre, 20 W. 7th Pl., St. Paul. 651-291-7005, parksquaretheatre.org.)

The Village of Hip Hop

Hip-hop is in the house — Pillsbury House, that is — for this free two-day event featuring art, performances, dance workshops, a film and panel discussions, plus food and socializing. At this family-friendly affair, you can learn to bust a move with Kenna Cottman and Herb Johnson, check out the sweet rhythms of solo dancer Kimani Beard and get inspired by the film "Shake the Dust," about the global effects of hip-hop. Hosted by Truth Maze, it's the place to be this weekend. (1-6:30 p.m. Sat., 1-6 p.m. Sun., Pillsbury House Theatre, 3501 Chicago Av. S., Mpls. Free. pillsburyhouseandtheatre.org.)
