STUART PIMSLER DANCE & THEATER

Thursday-Saturday: The "Eyes Wide Shut"-like rich man's playground Bohemian Grove serves as the fodder for Pimsler's new dance work seeing its world premiere this week at James Sewell Ballet's Tek Box. The men's club, located in the redwood forests of northern California, has been a gathering place for rich and powerful men — including many of our past presidents — for more than 100 years. It's here where Pimsler probes the secret world of the 1 percent through a montage of statuesque movement, animal imagery and monologues. Also premiering with "Bohemian Grove" is Suzanne Costello's "En Garde," featuring graduating St. Olaf College senior Grace Wehrspann, along with a work Pimsler created over the past year with dancers from Young Dance and their parents, called "Heroes Unbound." These new pieces are presented in tandem with SPDT's repertory piece "The Men From the Boys," a pas de deux featuring Pimsler and dancer Brian Evans exploring male intimacy. (7:30 p.m. June 11-12, 2 & 7:30 p.m. June 13. JSB Tek Box, Cowles Center, 528 Hennepin Av. S., Mpls., $15-$20, 612-206-3600, www.thecowlescenter.org).

'NOVELTY SHOTS: A Political Fantasy'

Thursday-Sunday: In their latest evening-length work, performance duo Emily Gastineau and Billy Mullaney, who perform under the moniker Fire Drill, are paying attention to the way people pay attention. Set against the backdrop of our Internet-obsessed culture, the two artists, whose work lives in the intersection of dance, theater and performance art, explore the ways our brains have been rewired to seek constant stimulation, exposing a "playful tension between engagement and distraction," Gastineau said. Expect a work that delves into physical extremes through Fire Drill's technique of endurance performance as it mines intellectual conundrums of existing in the Internet age. It's being presented as part of Red Eye Theater's New Works 4 Weeks festival. (8 p.m. June 11-13, 7 p.m. June 14, Red Eye Theater, 15 W. 14th St., Mpls. $8-$15, pay-as-able Thu. 612-870-0309, www.redeyetheater.org.)SHEILA REGAN
