Dan McHale officially hired as final Richard Pitino assistant coach

He worked for the past three years as an assistant at Seton Hall.

The University of Minnesota officially announced Dan McHale as the final piece of Richard Pitino's new staff on Friday. (The Star Tribune reported on Tuesday that he was set to be hired).

McHale, Kimani Young and Ben Johnson are Pitino's assistant coaches.

"I have known Dan for a long time and know that he will be a great addition to our staff," Pitino said in a release. "He fits what we alreaady have in place here with Kimani and Ben, which is a love and passion for the game of basketball. I am looking forward to working with this staff as we build a competitive Big Ten program."

McHale, a 2001 graduate of Kentucky -- where he was a student manager under Tubby Smith -- spent the previous three seasons as an assistant at Seton Hall, and has also worked as an assistant at Iona.
