Eighth District Republican challenger Chip Cravaack is on the air with his first TV ad, which tries to paint Rep. Jim Oberstar as a politician who's been in Washington too long.

In the ad, Cravaack talks about Oberstar's career in Washington spanning nearly 50 years, in addition to bringing up the typical Republican talking points on health care and cap and trade. Oberstar has served in Congress since 1975, and worked as a staffer for his predecessor John Blatnik before that.

Cravaack's campaign got the money to air the spot in part because of a recent influx of cash. His campaign said it has raised $300,000 in total this election cycle — but $60,000 came in the last week alone.

While that money might not go far in the Twin Cities, TV ads are less expensive in the Eighth District's Duluth market.

Oberstar has raised $1.5 million this cycle and $232,000 in the past three months, according to Federal Election Commission filings.
