Coordinators on way to Minnesota?

Kill's chief assistants aren't staying at NIU for bowl game

December 10, 2010 at 4:56PM

No announcements have been made yet about the makeup of Jerry Kill's staff with the Gophers, but it's clear that the new coach is bringing his coordinators from Northern Illinois with him.
That's not a surprise -- offensive coordinator Matt Limegrover has been one of Kill's coaches for a dozen years already, dating back to his days at Emporia State, three schools ago. And Tracy Claeys, the defensive coordinator goes back even farther -- he started working under Kill at Saginaw Valley State in 1995.
Neither coach is on the list released by NIU of its coaching staff for the Humanitarian Bowl in Boise later this month, so expect them to arrive right away to help with the transition and recruiting. The Huskies are being coached by Kill's longtime linebackers coach, Tom Matukewicz, in their game with Fresno State, and have enlisted a couple of former players to help coach the Huskies in the bowl.
The game is Dec. 18, so the remaining NIU coaches who are coming along to Minnesota -- and another five, including Matukewicz, have worked with Kill at previous stops -- could be in place before Christmas.
