Cook Political Report: Kline seat 'tossup'

Cook Political Report: Kline seat "tossup"

March 18, 2016 at 8:29PM

WASHINGTON -- The non-partisan Cook Political Report forecasters on Friday say the seat being vacated by outgoing Republican Rep. John Kline is a "toss up" seat nationally this November.

Cook analysts updated their rankings of all 435 House races, looking specifically at whether GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump will have any negative effects on Republicans nationally.

Kline's open seat has sparked an all-out fight among a packed field of Republicans hoping to win the endorsement, and ultimately the primary, later this summer.

Democratic hopeful Angie Craig, a former medical device company executive, is also running for the seat.

Among other Minnesota-related findings in Cook's report:

-Reps. Erik Paulsen and Collin Peterson, a Republican and Democrat respectively representing the Third and Seventh CDs, are "likely" going to keep their seats.

-Democratic Rep. Rick Nolan's seat is "leaning" Democratic. Republican Stewart Mills is hoping to unseat Nolan again. Mills ran in 2014 and lost.
