Convicted cop killer asks Supreme Court to reconsider his conviction one more time

November 7, 2008 at 6:40AM

The man convicted of killing St. Paul police Sgt. Gerald Vick in May 2005 is asking the Minnesota Supreme Court to take one more look at the case.

The Supreme Court confirmed the first-degree murder conviction of Harry J. Evans on Oct. 24 . Evans, 35, acting as his own attorney, filed a petition Wednesday asking the court to review its decision.

Evans' petition said his trial attorneys conducted a hearing into allegations of juror misconduct even though one of his appeal issues was "ineffective assistance of counsel." He also said the court "failed to address the equal protection clause" in the ruling that led to the hearing. And lastly, he contends that Vick's conduct on the night of his death "constituted an offense which violates a public policy, state law and threaten the public safety."

The state's high court has not yet ruled on whether it will review its decision.
