A conservative seniors group is getting involved in the Eighth District with an ad attacking Rep. Jim Oberstar for his tenure in Congress.

The 60 Plus Association, which calls itself the conservative alternative to the AARP, is spending $100,000 on ads in the Eighth District against Oberstar.

Previously, outside groups had spent $178,000 in all on the Eighth District, according to election spending reports. All of the money was spent opposing Oberstar or supporting his challenger Chip Cravaack.

The 60 Plus Association has spent more than $5.4 million against House Democrats this election.

The ad starts with 70s-era disco music, saying that in 1974, "Richard Nixon resigned, Fran Tarkenton starred for the Vikings and we elected Jim Oberstar to Congress" (never mind that the 60 Plus Association is based in Virginia).

The ad argues that after 36 years in Congress, Oberstar has lost touch with voters. It then goes through lines that have been a staple of most Republican ads this election season on Oberstar's voting with his party, cuts to Medicare and rising debt.

Here's a fact check from a previous 60 Plus Association ad on the Medicare claim from Politifact.
