Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff's Office will host their second "Coffee with a Cop" in Afton on Thursday.
The idea is to encourage residents to chat with law enforcement officers in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships and drink coffee, said Patrol Commander Brian Mueller.
The event begins at 9 a.m. at the Sail Away Café in downtown Afton. This is the second Coffee with a Cop event in Washington County. The first was held in Hugo in June.
"We hope that community members will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our deputies," said Sheriff Bill Hutton.
Afton has no police force but instead contracts with Washington County for law enforcement.
Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by the U.S. Department of Justice.
