'Ask This Old House' coming to Twin Cities

Got a home-improvement question? The popular PBS series "Ask This Old House" is traveling to Minneapolis and St. Paul the week of Sept. 14; the last time the show came to Minnesota was 10 years ago.

Twin Cities homeowners are invited to submit their home-improvement questions online. The show's experts will make a local house call during the visit and also answer selected local questions on camera. To submit your question — and possibly get the house call — go to thisoldhouse.com/askaquestion.

Prize bungalow

HGTV has transformed a bare-bones bungalow into an Urban Oasis for the network's latest home giveaway. This 1,300-square-foot abode doesn't rival the size and grandeur of past HGTV sweepstakes homes. But it's quirky and colorful and located in a popular arty neighborhood of Asheville, N.C.

The newly remodeled and furnished bungalow offers classic charm with a modern twist. Inside the decked-out spaces are an amalgam of cool steel industrial elements and warm rustic wood amid a vibrant color scheme. The design hits every urban lifestyle note, from a farmhouse-style kitchen where you can "whip up a farm-to-table meal" to a designated spot to mount your kayaks on the side of the home.

Enter online, up to twice per day, at HGTV.com to win the HGTV Urban Oasis bungalow furnished by Overstock.com. The prize package includes a 2016 Acura TLX and $50,000. The entry deadline is Sept. 24.

Last call for Legos

If you haven't made it to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum to check out the Legos sculptures, time is running out. The exhibit, featuring 13 nature-themed displays created by artist Sean Kenney using Lego bricks, will be on display in the Arb's gardens for two more weeks, through Aug. 30.

For those who want to try their hand at Lego sculpture, there will be two interactive Community Lego Brick Builds, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 22 in the Sensory Garden pavilion, and again Aug. 26, also 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Ordway Shelter. The Arb is located at 3675 Arboretum Dr., Chaska. For more information, visit arboretum.umn.edu.
