Michael Holbrook reached on an error in the top of the fifth inning and later scored on a wild pitch for the Spartans first run. Eric Loxtercamp delivered a two-out single in the top of the seventh inning to score two more runs. Starting pitcher Blaine Athmann worked all seven innings, allowing five hits, two walks and no runs.

Moltzan of Prior Lake finished third in team combined in Alpine skiing, and Korey Dropkin and Cory Thiesse of Duluth lost a heartbreaker to Sweden in curling.
