Former State Sen. Tarryl Clark, a DFL contender to challenge incumbent Republican Chip Cravaack in northern Minnesota's Eighth Congressional District, brought in $232,128 in the second quarter of this year, her campaign announced Thursday. Clark is challenging DFL-endorsed Rick Nolan in an Aug. 14 primary election, along with former Duluth City Council President Jeff Anderson. Nolan and Anderson have yet to report their fundraising for the past quarter, which runs from April 1 to June 30. Cravaack also has yet to report. Heading into the last quarter, Clark had $418,266, by far the biggest bankroll of the three DFL challengers. Cravaack, in his first term, started the quarter with $628,860, which is not considered a commanding lead for an incumbent in the state's most competitive district this year. Anderson and Nolan were both in the five-figures in cash on hand on March 31. Coming on top of the $857,512 Clark has already raised, her latest haul tips over $1million in total fundraising so far, matching the total Cravaack reported at the end of last quarter. This is Clark's second run for Congress, having lost to Minnesota Republican Michele Bachmann in 2010.
