Staff Writer Allie Shah sends this report from St. Cloud:

Late Tuesday night, Tarryl Clark ended a swirl of confusion surrounding the fate of her bid to unseat Michele Bachmann, telling supporters gathered inside a downtown St. Cloud event center: "Sometimes change takes longer than you want it to."

In conceding the election, she added: "I do want to congratulate Congresswoman Bachmann and I hope she takes it to heart to pay attention to the people of this district."

But the war of words between her and Bachmann during their heated race did not seem to be over.

Clark went on to blast Bachmann for spending millions on "negative ads" that she said offered no vision or promise for the future. "Falseness, smears. All wrong," Clark said.

"She might have won tonight but she didn't beat us," she said, provoking loud applause.

Clark thanked all the volunteers for their hard work and urged them to persevere.

"We were running into a headwind but we ran into a tsunami instead," Clark said, before adding, "I actually think we would've won against the headwind."

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
