Short takes

• It's been an eventful couple of weeks for the Bulls, who fired coach Fred Hoiberg Dec. 3 and named assistant Jim Boylen coach. The Bulls lost to the Celtics by 56, setting the record for worst loss in franchise history. Then, some players did not want to attend a scheduled practice after the loss, the Chicago Tribune reported, and were unhappy with Boylen's demanding tactics.

"My job is to try to push our guys to a place they can't take themselves," Boylen said, according to the Tribune. Eventually, everybody showed up thanks to prodding from Robin Lopez and Lauri Markkanen, the Tribune reported. The Bulls lost by 19 to the Kings on Monday.

• Dwyane Wade's farewell tour hit an emotional high point Monday as he squared off against former teammate LeBron James in his likely final game against James at Staples Center. In a fitting moment, James was defending Wade with the Lakers leading by 3 in the closing seconds. Wade's fadeaway 3 missed and Justise Winslow missed a subsequent chance to tie in a 108-105 Lakers win.

"This is what you play the game for," Wade said, according to ESPN. "Whether we're teammates or whether we're opponents, we brought the best out of each other."

• Cleveland has been busy on the trade market. With James gone, the Cavaliers are in rebuilding mode and are looking to acquire picks. They traded prolific shooter Kyle Korver to the Jazz and got back a pair of second-round picks in the exchange. Then they traded guard George Hill to the Bucks in a three-team trade that landed them a first-round pick as part of the haul. The Cavaliers are likely to keep shopping.
