The Minnesota Board of Chiropractic Medicine has now made public the reasons for which they indefinitely suspended Blaine chiropractor Jeffrey M. Styba in late September. Styba, who owned Exodus Chiropractic, P.A. in Blaine, was originally disciplined by the board in April for improperly enrolling patients in credit card plans and overbilling them. According to the board's report, Styba took an active part in obtaining health care credit cards for patients, often by providing false income or home ownership information. He admitted he and his staff would just "plug in a number." The board suspended Styba but stayed the suspension as long as he complied with certain conditions. In September, Styba's stay of suspension was lifted and he was indefinitely suspended for not complying with the original order's conditions, including that Styba receive a passing grade on an ethics and boundaries test. He only received a passing grade in two of five areas of the test. He also failed to take required coursework or pay a civil penalty of $30,000 within 60 days of the order, though he made one installment payment in September.
