Children's Hospitals to consolidate 650 metro-area workers in Edina office

May 23, 2015 at 2:33AM

Children's Hospitals & Clinics is planning to move about 650 administrative workers to an office in Edina next year.

The employees currently work in five different leased locations, including Roseville, Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Under the plan, workers would move into about 200,000 square feet of leased space at 5901 Lincoln Drive in Edina, near the intersection of Hwys. 62 and 169.

The lease should be finalized in the coming week, said Dave Oberman, president and chief operating officer at Children's. Employers would move midyear 2016.

"We want to explore ways to generate greater efficiencies, creativity and collaboration," Oberman said. "It's tough to be part of an organization when you're spread out so far and wide."

Affected employees have nonclinical jobs in areas such as information technology, billing, human resources, marketing, communications and the hospital's charitable foundation.

Children's is the state's largest pediatric hospital, with inpatient medical centers in Minneapolis and St. Paul. The Minneapolis-based system also includes 12 primary and specialty care clinics plus six rehabilitation sites.

Children's employed close to 4,900 people in 2014.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
