Unless you enjoy sitting in absolute silence after your kids go to sleep, you'll need a suite. Chicago has a wide range of hotels that offer this amenity, some more extravagant than others. Rates vary widely depending on date and occupancy.

Embassy Suites downtown

Accommodations: The reliable casual chain that was built for families (i.e. the suites).

For kids: The American Girl package takes advantage of the popular doll store located just a few blocks away. Each little girl — and her doll — get special slumber party amenities: a check-in catered to them, doll-sized travel bed (that can be taken home), turndown service for the girl and her doll, plus in-suite movie, popcorn, sweet and salty snacks and juice.

Price: Starting at $244 a night.
