Gustavo Dudamel of the L.A. Philharmonic

The Los Angeles Philharmonic last year introduced dynamic young music director Gustavo Dudamel to the world from the Frank Gehry-designed Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA. His debut concert as m.d. included a world premiere by John Adams as well as a memorable Mahler One. (See video excerpt below.)

Now you have a chance to see and hear Dudamel (before he turns 30) and the LA Phil. live via high-definition telecasts beamed to Twin Cities movie theaters. The first show, on Jan. 9, features another Adams work, "Slonimsky's Earbox," that is familiar to fans of the Minnesota Orchestra, which played the work early in 2009, then toured it in Europe. Also on the program is Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 and Bernstein's Symphony No. 1, "Jeremiah."

The live telecast is at 4 p.m. You can choose from eight metro-area movie theaters.

Tickets are $20. For tickets, theater listings and more info, go here.

Future programs include an all-Tchaikovsky program on March 13 and an all-Brahms one on June 5.
