Chaska police are asking for help in finding a man who entered a gas station and stole a donation jar filled with coins meant for Minnesota military families.

The suspect stole the jar around midnight on June 2 from a Super America station at Hwy. 41 and Hundertmark Road, said Police Chief Scott Knight.

Before the theft occurred, a customer told police that the suspect had asked for money and stated he needed gas so he could drive back to Richfield.

The man was driving a late 1990 or early 2000 gold four-door Buick. One of the rear tires on the vehicle was a spare.

Anybody with information is asked to call Chaska police at 952-448-4200.

This is at least the second case in the past couple months in which somebody walked off with boxes in which patrons drop spare change in to support charities. In April, a man snatched boxes from two convenience stores in Eagan. He was eventually caught.
