A middle school instructional aide in St. Louis Park was charged Thursday with coaxing an eighth-grade girl into a secluded spot in the building and molesting her, telling his victim "you're mine."

Jarrell P. Smith, 31, of Minneapolis, was charged in Hennepin County District Court with second-degree criminal sexual conduct, given that he held a position of authority over the teenager. Smith also was charged with fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct because of the girl's age. Smith remains jailed in lieu of $250,000 bail.

According to the criminal complaint:

The 14-year-old girl told investigators that on Friday she said to Smith that she was upset about a grade she received. He told her they could speak about it in the gym.

They met in the gym, and he led her onto a stage in the back, an area that was shielded by a curtain. Smith "pressed her against the wall and fondled her buttocks," the complaint read.

Smith then turned her around and put his hand down her pants and touched her bare genitals and buttocks. He kissed her and said he want to have intercourse with her.

"He stated, 'you're mine,' " then directed her to go home.

Smith was arrested at his home Tuesday, one day after the School District became aware of the alleged incident. The district has placed him on administrative leave.

The complaint against Smith said his duties at the school included monitoring the lunchroom and the halls.
