A Brooklyn Park man who police say broke into one Burnsville house and crashed an SUV into another was charged Monday with one count of burglary and two counts of felony assault.

Willie Alfonso Brown, 33,was arrested Friday after the incident, which prompted a lockdown at two nearby schools.

According to the charges, a homeowner came home midday Friday, saw an unfamiliar SUV parked out front and then spotted Brown walking out of the house with a box of the homeowners' belongings.

Brown brandished a gun and fled in the SUV. Witnesses said Brown lost control and crashed into another house, showing his gun again when a resident of that house looked outside.

Brown fled on foot. Police found him behind another house about two blocks away. He told police he had been in the SUV but denied driving it or possessing a handgun.

No one was hurt. Nicollet Junior High and Sky Oaks Elementary were locked down during the incident, but there were few people inside because of spring break.
