A driver who allegedly pitched illicit drugs out the window with police in pursuit from north Minneapolis to south of Shakopee before crashing was charged Wednesday with fleeing law enforcement.
Diane R. Chosa, 24, of Minneapolis, remains in the Hennepin County jail in lieu of $25,000 bail ahead of a court appearance scheduled for Thursday.
A passenger, also 24, also was taken into custody Monday afternoon, but the county attorney's office has not charged her.
According to the felony criminal complaint:
A Minneapolis police officer saw "a suspicious vehicle" about 2:30 p.m. parked behind a garage near Girard and Humboldt Avenues N. Learning that the car had been reported stolen from St. Louis Park, the officer walked to the car and told the driver and the passenger to put their hands where he could see them.
Instead, Chosa hit the gas and sped off, prompting the officer to give chase.
The speeding driver ignored traffic signals, at one point squeezing between and scraping two vehicles stopped at a red light.
Chosa entered Interstate 94 and wove in and out of traffic. With a long line of state troopers following, Chosa sped onto I-494, passing vehicles on both shoulders at speeds topping 85 miles per hour.
Chosa struck a vehicle south of Shakopee, then ran from the smoking vehicle but was quickly nabbed.
Police say the women threw drugs out of the vehicle during the pursuit. The passenger told police that they both has been using heroin.
