At 185 feet from home plate, Chanhassen's softball fence isn't the toughest barrier to break. But a home run is a home run, and the Storm's Abbie Voas racked them up last week at a Josh Hamilton-esque pace.

Voas, a junior first baseman, cranked three balls over the Chanhassen fence last Tuesday in a 9-1 victory over New Prague. The second of the bombs cleared a 20-foot-high scoreboard, three fences behind it and ricocheted off nearby railroad tracks.

"We never did find the ball," Storm coach Joe Coenen said. "What a shot; just a well-hit ball. I seriously believe that would have gone out in almost any park we play in."

It's the second time Coenen has seen three home runs in a game. Two years ago, a player went deep three times against the Storm. "It's nice to be on the good end of it," Coenen said.

Voas' output didn't stop against New Prague. She hit two home runs last week in a doubleheader against Schofield (Wis.) D.C. Everest in Wisconsin. The second of those two homers tied Game 2 at 4-4 in an eventual 6-4 Chanhassen victory.

In Game 1, she also had a double to set up the game-winning RBI. For the week, Voas was 10-for-19 with 12 RBI and 11 runs scored.

"She did an amazing job," Coenen said. "The game has really slowed down for her. It's as if things are in slow motion and she's getting really good looks at every at-bat."

Chanhassen returns home Thursday against Shakopee. Along with Farmington, those three teams began the week tied atop the Missota Conference standings.

True Team stateThe boys' and girls' teams from Minnetonka advanced to Friday night's True Team track and field meet at Stillwater High School by winning their section meets last week.

The Skippers boys' team was third in the Class 3A meet last year. This is the girls' first appearance since a Class 3A runner-up showing in 2006.

The Buffalo boys' team also earned a spot in the Class 3A meet with a section championship, while Wayzata got in by way of a wild-card berth.

In Class 2A, the Delano boys' team will be represented.

The True Team concept originated in 1987 and is sponsored by the coaches association. The meet rewards teams for all of its finishers rather than just the top spots. A team is allowed two entries per individual event in Class 2A and three entries in Class 3A.
