Century College of White Bear Lake begins play Saturday in the junior college Division III World Series, marking the second time in the program's five-year history that it has advanced to the national tournament.

The No. 2-ranked Wood Ducks (38-7) open against top-ranked Herkimer (N.Y.) County College (45-4) at 7 p.m. at Grainger Stadium in Kinston, N.C. They enter the eight-team, double-elimination tournament on a 13-game win streak. They outscored opponents 25-7 in winning the District E championship last weekend. Century was the national runner-up in 2013.

• The Wild re-signed restricted free agent Michael Keranen to a one-year, two-way contract. Keranen, 25, tied for second in scoring on the Iowa Wild last season, with 37 points and a team-high 27 assists.

• Olympic bronze medalist Pete Fenson of Bemidji and three-time Olympian John Shuster of Duluth head a list of 13 Minnesotans named to USA Curling's high performance program for the 2015-16 season. A total of 31 athletes were invited to join the program, which includes seven elite junior and senior teams for men and women. The selections were made by a committee following a combine held last weekend at the Four Seasons Curling Club in Blaine. Other Minnesotans named to the program include Joe Polo, Chris Plys, Tyler George, John Landsteiner, Aileen Sormunen and Cory Christensen of Duluth; Jared Zezel of Hibbing; Mark Fenner and Alex Fenson of Bemidji; and Tabitha and Tara Peterson of Eagan.

• Four Gophers were named to the Academic All-District track and field team for their efforts in the classroom and their sport. They are Aaron Bartnik, Mark Jennings, Gian Ferretti and Luca Wieland.
