Pope John Paul II, one of the most popular popes of all time, is one step closer to becoming a Saint.
The Associated Press reports current Pope Benedict XVI declared a decree that a French nun's recovery from Parkinson's disease was miraculous. That means the beloved pontiff will be beatified in a May 1 ceremony to be celebrated by Benedict.
Now a second miracle is needed for John Paul to be made a saint.
The May event is expected to be a major morale booster for the Catholic Church, which was been dealing with a wave of violence against Christians recently and fallout from the clerical sex abuse scandal.
What are your thoughts? Should Pope John Paul be considered for sainthood? Is it too soon?
