DUNEDIN, FLA. -- Twins second baseman Alexi Casilla will have an MRI exam on his right knee today. General Manager Terry Ryan continues to hope it's nothing serious.
Casilla was scratched from Thursday's lineup when the back of his knee stiffened up.
We should get an update on this later today.
Today's game: The Blue Jays are 22-4-1 this spring, and that is no misprint.
Next week, that won’t mean anything, of course, but you have to believe a team that’s gotten used to winning during spring training will carry that extra little confidence when the games count for real. There’s a lot to like about the Blue Jays anyway, so I’m anxious to watch them up here with most of their regulars in the lineup.
The Twins are on a mini-roll, having won three straight, and they’ve scored at least seven runs in six of their past 11 games. This is another split-squad day, so La Velle is back in Fort Myers covering Nick Blackburn’s start against the Red Sox. Check both of our blogs today for updates.
Update: The Twins bolstered their minor-league first base depth today, acquiring Matt Rizzotti from the Phillies for cash. Rizzotti, 26, batted .295 AVG/.392 OBP/.511 SLG with 24 home runs last year for Class AA Reading. This is another sign the Twins plan to keep Chris Parmelee on the big-league roster. La Velle reports that the Twins will wait to decide whether to send Rizzotti to Class AA or Class AAA.
Update: The Twins made a lineup change, moving Ben Revere to right field, and Aaron Hicks to center. The original lineup had Revere in center and Hicks in right.
