A car crashed and split in two after a tire blew along a southern Minnesota interstate in a wreck that killed the 19-year-old driver from the Twin Cities.

The crash involved three other vehicles that struck a portion of the vehicle, authorities said.

The crash occurred shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday on southbound Interstate 35, about 13 miles south of Owatonna, according to the State Patrol.

The patrol Thursday afternoon identified the person who died as Kassondra L. Sage, of Delano.

A rear tire blew on the woman's car, a Chrysler PT Cruiser, sending the vehicle into the median near Ellendale, the patrol said. The car rolled, causing it "to split in two," a patrol statement read.

A part of the car ended up on northbound I-35, where it was struck by a motorcycle, a pickup truck and an SUV, according to the patrol.

The motorcyclist was hospitalized with noncritical injuries, while the three people in the other two vehicles escaped injury altogether.
