Shakopee race track could host running-of-the-bulls event next May

SHAKOPEE, Minn. — You might not have to travel to Pamplona, Spain if running with the bulls is your type of sport.

A promotional group is bringing the Great Bull Run to America at 10 locations over the next year. Organizers have a tentative date of May 14 at Canterbury Park horse race track in Shakopee. Mayor Brad Tabke says he would welcome the event if Canterbury officials determined it was OK.

Canterbury spokesman Jeff Maday says track officials will likely attend the first U.S. event in Virginia before signing a contract with bull run organizers.

Great Bull Run co-founder Rob Dickens says the bulls used in America won't be as aggressive as the animals in Spain. The company is already promoting the event and about 500 people have already registered online.
