German jockey Anne von Rosen, who has raced off and on at Canterbury Park since 2001, had a second surgery Thursday following a racing accident in Phoenix on Tuesday that damaged her spinal cord and left her paralyzed from the waist down.
Von Rosen was riding Panchita Bonita in the quarter horse contest at Turf Paradise in Phoenix. The Paulick Report, a daily e-mail track newsletter, reported that “as she pulled the horse up on the backstretch, Panchita Bonita collapsed and fell, trapping von Rosen.”
The jockey was knocked unconscious and taken to nearby John C. Lincoln Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery for leaking spinal fluid, the report said.
The second surgery was to stabilize her condition and make her more comfortable.
