Jonah Gadjovich scored twice to lead Canada's men's hockey team to a 6-0 rout of Slovakia on Wednesday night on the second day of the World Junior Championship in Buffalo, N.Y.

Sam Steel scored at 2 minutes, 39 seconds of the opening period to give the Canadians a 1-0 lead. Canada, now 2-0 in Group A pool play, scored three more goals in the second period. Jordan Kyrou and Taylor Raddysh got power-play goals in the first 11 minutes. And between those goals, Gadjovich scored at even-strength.

Maxime Comtois and Gadjovich, on a power play, got Canada's final two goals in the last 4:02 of the third period.

Colton Point made 20 saves for Canada, David Hrenak 46 for Slovakia.

Switzerland 3, Belarus 2: Philipp Kurashev, Nicolas Muller and Valentin Nussbaumer scored goals as the Swiss beat the Belarusians. Philip Wuthrich made 27 saves for Switzerland in its Group B opener. Maxim Sushko and Viktor Bovbel scored for Belarus.

• Defending champion United States, which beat Denmark 9-0 victory on Tuesday night and then had a day off, will play Slovakia at 7 p.m. Thursday. And then the Americans, coached by Bob Motzko of St. Cloud State for the second year in a row, will play Canada at 2 p.m. Friday in the first outdoor game in tournament history at New Era Field, home of the NFL's Buffalo Bills. The U.S. team beat host Canada in a shootout in the gold-medal game last year.
