Steven Streeter's stucco and cedar home re-creates the feeling of his favorite vacation spot -- California's Napa Valley.

In 2002, Streeter, president of Streeter and Associates, a Wayzata builder, hired architect Kurt Baum to design a home in Deephaven that has easy access to outdoor living rooms. Streeter also integrated Napa Valley's warm tones by using natural materials such as slate flooring, fir ceiling beams and walnut cabinets.

"Californians have this great simplistic way of living outside because of the weather," he said. Although he wasn't able to replicate the mild year-round climate, he built his own California-style back-yard getaway: a spacious bluestone courtyard with a pool, wood-burning fireplace and lounging area.

When he sells, Streeter won't be moving far away. He plans to build a new East Coast-style home on the lot next to this one, which he also owns.

"I've never stayed in one place for more than eight years," he said. "My family doesn't need as much space. Life evolves."

Other features:

• The 5,500-square-foot one-story walkout includes four bedrooms and five bathrooms.

• The home sits on 2/3 of an acre with dense woods.

• Venetian plaster walls throughout are reminiscent of Napa Valley homes.

• The contemporary open main floor, which includes the kitchen, dining and living rooms, has vaulted ceilings accented with reclaimed fir beams.

• The living room boasts a Venetian plaster fireplace, piano alcove and tall windows for views of the courtyard and grounds.

• The kitchen features soapstone countertops and reclaimed birch cabinets.

• Three bedroom suites in the lower level, plus a laundry room, exercise room and of course, a wine cellar.

• In-floor radiant heat throughout the home.

• A Philippe Starck-designed tub is in the master bath.

• The home is in the quaint Cottagewood neighborhood, which has its own general store.
