U.S. Rep. Darrrell Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, has requested information regarding the oversight of Medicaid funding in Minnesota.

Minnesota's version of Medicaid, the Medical Assistance program, is under federal investigation for allegedly inflating health care premiums for low-income recipients of the federal health-insurance program. State legislators are calling for independent third-party auditors to review record-keeping.

State Sen. Sean Nienow, R-Cambridge, wrote to Issa this week. seeking federal assistance to deal with Minnesota's problem. According to Nienow, Issa wants experts on Medicaid spending in Minnesota to testify during a hearing next month in Washington, D.C., possibly in April.

Issa has also written to Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa. U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., has also called for more scrutiny of the state's Medicaid accounting.
