But would you live in a Toyota Prius?

High gas prices big factor in home buying decisions.

May 18, 2011 at 6:42PM

Seems as though high gas prices are having a big impact on where people want to live. A new survey of real estate agents by Coldwell Banker Real Estate says 75 percent said that gas prices have influenced their clients' decisions about where to live, and 93 percent of them said if prices continue to rise, more of their clients will pick their house based on who close it is to their work. Other interesting findings:

• More than 3/4 three quarters of the agents surveyed said more buyers want a home office compared to five years ago.

• More than half of the agents surveyed said that more home buyers are interested in urban living compared with five years ago.

• Of those interested in urban living, nearly all said that having everything at your fingertips was an incentive, and 3/4 said that it was all about being able to walk to places. A little more than half cited being near public transportation as a key reason.

Are high gas prices making you think about where you'll be your next house?

FILE -- A rent deposit slot at an apartment complex in Tucker, Ga., on July 21, 2020.
