The Hennepin County medical examiner on Thursday identified the body of a woman found late Wednesday in the Mississippi River in Minneapolis as that of University of Minnesota student Jennifer Houle.

Houle, 22, of Lake Elmo, had been missing for four days after being caught on video footage going into the river off the 10th Avenue Bridge, near the university. She died of freshwater drowning, the medical examiner said in a news release.

Water rescuers with the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office recovered her body from the river near the 10th Avenue Bridge in Minneapolis late Wednesday.

Authorities began searching the river for Houle on Saturday after surveillance footage showed her entering the water from the bridge on March 27. Police have said that they do not know if she jumped or fell, but that the footage shows she was alone at the time. The medical examiner did not rule on the manner of death, saying it remains under investigation.
